TRADE WARS 2002 SERVER INFO
Posted: Sun Jan 18, 2015 11:37 pm
Have started a TradeWars 2002 Server. The server can hold up to 100 players at a time and I have the rights to run up to 25 different games. I currently will just be running one game and if the game catches on, then I may have to run more than one game. Each game that is run can have up to 500 players in the Galaxy that is created.
So, what is Trade Wars 2002?
Trade Wars 2002, is an old mainly text base multiplayer star system game that was big in the late 80's and through most of the 90's. The game was run on BBS and when the internet came to be, the game slowly died along with the BBS. However it seems the maker of TradeWars2002(TW2002) has made a 25th year edition a few years back, that allows it to be run on the internet. Still the game seems to require either windoes terminal program or a program that is called GATH, which I will link to below. The game seems to be making a come back, like many other old games. TW2002 is mainly text base with some ANSI graphics.
What is the plot of the game?
Think of it as a very very very early EVE Online... LOL You port and trade 3 main goods. Fuel Ore, organic, and equipment. You try to buy and sell the product at different ports to make as good of a sell as possible, and if you make a really good deal, you gain experience(which there are leader boards for exp). So, you trade and make money, you use this to buy fighters and shields for your ship along with transporting and bringing more people to your planet that you get when you first start the game.
The Home planet that you can go pick people off of is at sector 1. Just type 1 and press enter. Your ship will then start moving through sectors and heading to sector 1. If your ship runs into another ship(alien or trader) or a port(to trade at) options will come up. Or you can just press E and you will enter express mode and will not stop unless attacked. When you reach sector 1, you can then land on the planet and pick up so people. Take those people back to your sector where your planet is, press L, to land on the planet and then place the people in either Fuel Ore, Organic, or Equipment.
At any time you can usually hit ? and a menu will come up with the key options you can use at any time. Which are different depending what menu you are in. Also, the Q key will become your friend to excape out of menus
It take a little time to learn, but after you play it some, it becomes a very fun and addicting game.
So in the end, the goal is to get as powerful as you can and join foreces with players, i currently have the Corp. max at 10. So each Corp. can have up to 10 players on it. Or you can go at it alone and just make verbal agreements with friends, its really up to the player
The help file I attached at: tradewars2002.guardiansworlds.com will help some, but there is also that great little GOOGLE search, that will help you understand the game also.
I have added GATH and a TW2002 help doc at the following address: tradewars2002.guardiansworlds.com
Current IP and Port for the game is 166.251.94.232 Port 23
For you old school gamers that played it probably in the 90's, I have added some more custom alien races, along with making the current ones better and stronger for later game play. I have also created some larger ships that can be bought down the road and made several new planet types that can be created.
So, hope to see some of you on there Currently have the turns set to 30,000 turns a day(each ship uses so many turns to warp to each sector, later larger ships can use up to 10 to 20 turns per sector). I may up the turns to 60,000 or unlimited but, 30,000 keeps some thinking involved over time, and keeps people from playing all day, while others can only play an hour or two. So, guess time will tell there.
If anyone has any other questions or needs help, feel free to post a comment below or I will be listing this same thread on my website forums as well.
ALSO A HELPFUL TIP:
Either have a note pad or use windows note pad, to keep sector info for quick reference. Maybe its a port that you make good money from or a port or sectors you need to avoid.
For example, on my note pad on windows, i made a file on the desktop, TradeWars2002.
Home Planet: 8756 (not really my number )
Don't give your home planet sector number out, unless you have made true verbal agreements with players or friends. Just an FYI there.
Thanks,
Guardian
